Costa Rica, 1/2 real, "lion" countermark (Type VI, 1849-57) on a Costa Rica provisional 1/2 real of 1842 MM, PCGS XF 45, c/m XF detail, finest and only example in PCGS census. KM-69. Rare host coin with bold details, small flat void on edge, the countermark deep and prominent, with blue-gold toning all over. Unfortunately this countermark has been mistakenly called "Type VII" by NGC and some catalogers, perhaps due to the fact that it is double-applied to gold but is still the same Type as on the silver.
