Caracas, Venezuela, 1/4 real, 1829, variety with tail of cornucopia between 8 and 2, ex-Stohr. KM-C34; Stohr-14. 0.36 gram. Very crude VF with light toning, possible light clips on edge, desirable pedigree. Pedigreed to the Tomas Stohr collection (Subasta Especial Caracas, June 2008). Probably a contemporary counterfeit (note the low weight).

NOTE: At the time, these "cuartillos" were massively forged mainly in Curacao and the brittish colonies mainly by reducing the weight rather than reducing the title on the silver, but also doing the latter.

The false coins were easily recognizable soon because they tend to have a distinctive discoloring (yellowish) from what you may deem good silver. An article on this issues wrote by Ing. Enrique Bernal Secretary of the Numismatic Venezuelan Society study these forged issues in detail.
