CUBA, struck at the Tower Mint in England, gold matte proof 50 pesos, 1995, Henry Morgan, unique, NGC PF 70 Matte, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-International Currency Bureau Archive. Aledón-625 (for regular issue); KM-491 for non-matte. 13.4 grams. 26 mm. With pasted-on paper polychrome illustration of Sir Henry Morgan on obverse, struck as part of the experimental “Pirates of the Caribbean” proof and pattern series of 1995, this solid gold 50 pesos of Henry Morgan stands as the only known specimen ever made in matte proof. NGC-certified as PF 70, it represents technical perfection, with flawless surfaces and razor-sharp detail.

This coin is not only the single example known, but also the only Cuban gold matte proof ever graded PF 70, marking it as a true contemporary numismatic treasure. Its unmatched quality and confirmed provenance from the International Currency Bureau Archive, sold at Glendining’s in 2001, make it one of the most important and elusive Cuban modern issues extant. Pedigreed to the International Currency Bureau Archive (Glendining auction 31021 of February 2001, with original lot-tag 617).
