CUBA, struck at the Gorham Mint, "souvenir" peso, 1897, Type II (closely spaced date and star to right below baseline), NGC MS 62. KM-XM2. Well struck with faint toning over cartwheel luster, scattered light contact marks appropriate for the grade, the Type II diagnostics bold and distinct, a popular Cuban independence issue struck in Providence, Rhode Island, for the Cuban Revolutionary movement, with a low mintage of 4,286 pieces.
