CUBA, large lot of Banco Español de la Habana and Banco Español de la Isla de Cuba notes, 1883-1897, ex-Busto. Large grouping of Cuban type notes, as follows: Banco Español de la Habana—3 pesos reverse proof, 1872-83 (Pick-28p); 1 peso, 1883 (Pick-27e); 5 centavos, 1883 (Pick-29d). Banco Español de la Isla de Cuba—50 pesos, 1896 (Pick-50a); two examples of 50 pesos, 1896, with PLATA overprint (Pick-50b); 10 pesos, 1896, with hand-stamped date and signatures (Pick-49a); 10 pesos, 1896, with printed date and signatures, with PLATA overprint (Pick-49d); 5 pesos, 1896, with PLATA overprint (Pick-49b); 5 pesos, 1897, with selvage (Pick-48c); 1 peso, 1896 (Pick-47a); 1 peso, 1896, with PLATA overprint (Pick-47b); 50 centavos, 1896 (Pick-46a); 50 centavos, 1896, with PLATA overprint (Pick-46b); 20 centavos, 1897 (Pick-53a); two examples of 10 centavos, 1897 (Pick-52a); 5 centavos, 1896 (Pick-45a). Total: 18 notes. Nice group representing two major Cuban banks in the late 1800s. All generally VF to XF with a few more circulated notes in the group, most with collector's tags. The three 50 pesos are rather important as a colorful large-format note that has become fairly scarce on the market. Excellent opportunity for any serious Cuban paper money collector. Pedigreed to the José Busto Collection.
