COSTA RICA, San José, brass 50 centavos pattern, 18XX (1870s), reeded edge, rare, PCGS SP63, finest and only example in PCGS census, ex-Pat Johnson. KM-unl (similar to 124 for regular issue). Beautifully lustrous with patches of light rainbow toning and dark streak of metal flaw from 11 to 5 o'clock on obverse, similar to the regular issue starting in 1880 but with last two digits of date missing and with different reverse legend (also lacking the assayer initials) that is in fact more like the famously rare 20 pesos of 1873. Pedigreed to the Pat Johnson Collection.
