COSTA RICA, San José, República de Costa Rica, specimen 50 colones, (1917), PMG Gem UNC 65 EPQ, "top pop." Pick-150s. Two POCs. As with the prior lot, we previously offered the remainder version of this colorful 50 colones in our May 2021 auction. Costa Rica is known for colorful bank notes and this design is no exception with the Columbus vignette on the front shown against brown, green, and purple undertones; the tan reverse features the Costa Rican coat of arms. Impressively printed specimen with great ink colors and excellent embossing, tied with four others for finest known in the PMG census.
