COSTA RICA, San José, República de Costa Rica, specimen 100 colones, (1917), PMG Choice AU 58 EPQ. Pick-150As. Two POCs. The front vignette depicts the right-facing bust of Christopher Columbus against a vivid blue, red, and green underprint, while the reverse features the coat of arms of Costa Rica. We previously offered the only known remainder of this type in May of 2021, so it's fitting that we finally handle a specimen example of this rare, nicely designed type. Boldly printed with great paper originality with perhaps some trivial handling to mark the grade.
