COSTA RICA, 4 reales, 1846 JB 1-real counterstamp (Type IV) with "4" countermark on a Mexico City, Mexico, cob 4 reales of Philip V, assayer not visible (post-1713), unique, PCGS G details / holed, c/m XF detail. KM-unl (cf 50). Fully detailed counterstamp with full secondary countermark next to it, a very rare issue no matter the host but this piece currently unique (to our knowledge) for the Mexican cob host, with just enough cross and shield detail to see it is from 1714 or later (a single klippe is also known), the rest flat (as made), nicely toned, with hole in one point of the squarish flan, an important coin for the Costa Rican specialist.
