COLOMBIA, Medellín, proof essai 2 décimos, 1873, AB below bust (Albert Barré), extremely rare, NGC PF 64 (gold WINGS sticker), ex-Lissner. Restrepo-P42; KM-Pn38. Exceptionally attractive proof essai with sharply defined details contrasting with deeply reflective fields, all overlain with vivid multicolor toning showcasing rich rainbow hues on both sides. The bust in particular (engraved by Albert Barré) exhibits a strikingly three-dimensional quality. Also quite rare, as one of only three complete examples known to us, apart from some separately encountered uniface trials, and desirably pedigreed to the Lissner collection (the catalog for which mistakenly linked this piece to Ponterio 93, lot 1765, which was a 1 peso pattern of the same general type). Pedigreed to the R.L. Lissner Collection (CNG/St James's/Teller auction of August 2014, with original lot-sticker 1487), as stated on label.
