COLOMBIA, Medellín, gold 5 pesos, 1863, very rare, ex-JEAS. Restrepo-329.1; Sed-36; KM-140; Fr-96. 8.11 grams. Lightly polished AU, a little crude toward rims (as made) and a few small marks in centers, an acknowledged rarity (rated RRRR in Sedwick and "rare" in Restrepo) of which we can trace only three examples sold in the past couple decades: the Dr. Frank Sedwick specimen (Sedwick Auction 9, lot 348), the Hammel/Eldorado specimen (Stack's Bowers January 2018, lot 12189), and now the JEAS specimen (current lot). Pedigreed to the JEAS Collection.
