COLOMBIA, Medellín, brass pattern for gold 2 pesos, 1871, ex-JEAS. Restrepo-8 (p. 206); KM-Pn32. 2.04 grams. Light brassy color with some original luster, fully detailed XF. Restrepo calls this pattern "gilt copper," while KM calls it simply copper, but XRF testing on this piece shows 82% copper and 16% zinc (a typical ratio for brass), with less than 0.25% gold (hence traces of gilding are possible). Pedigreed to the JEAS Collection.
