COLOMBIA, Cartagena, low-silver "imitation cob" ½ real, Ferdinand VII, fantasy date "8o(?)" (ca. 1815), extremely rare, NGC AU 55, "top pop," Rosenman Plate, Restrepo Plate. Restrepo-108.2; Cal-unl; KM-unl. 0.89 gram. Thin and underweight flan (Rosenman calls it a "monogram ¼ real") but with bold full cross containing empty quadrants, very clear but off-center Philip monogram above 8o of date (third digit to right off the flan, probably another o), lightly toned and very choice in grade, currently one of only two known with that date, also admirably pedigreed, an extremely important piece for the Colombian “imitation cob” specialist. Plate Coin on page 54 of Rosenman's Imitation Cobs of Venezuela and Colombia (2007) and on page 133 of Restrepo's Coins of Colombia (2012), also pictured in issue #14 (October 2021) of “Monedas de Colombia” published by Alexander Montaña Rodríguez.
