COLOMBIA, Cartagena, gold cob 2 escudos, (1633-34), assayer E below mintmark C to right, upright denomination II to left, "+" ornaments inside and outside tressure, NGC MS 63, Practical Book of Cobs Plate (stated on label), Calicó-Trigo Plate. Restrepo-M52.21; S-C7; KM-4.6; Cal-Type 379; Fr-2a1. 6.67 grams. Nice full cross and shield, the former with atypical quatrefoil ornaments and the latter with upright denomination II with + above and below to left above full king's ordinal IIII followed by another +, full C-E to right without ornaments, contrasting sediment in crevices, small area of peripheral flatness. Plate Coin on page 64 of Frank Sedwick's Practical Book of Cobs (1st edition, 1987), with copy of letter from him to the consignor stating this, also Plate Coin on page 160 of Calicó-Trigo's 1985 edition of Numismática española (also mentioned in the Sedwick letter).
