COLOMBIA, Cartagena, copper provisional 2 reales, 1813, with crowned-E.C. countermark on date side, NGC XF details / private countermark, ex-Margolis. Host: Restrepo-136.2; KM-D1. First example we've seen of this private countermark on a modestly circulated provisional issue. We've encountered a few other provisional coins from this time with possible hacienda countermarks, but the presence of a crown on this mark could relate to Royalist sentiments (bears further study). Pedigreed to the Richard Margolis Collection (Stack's Bowers auction of October 2024, lot 74069).
