COLOMBIA, Cartagena, cob 1 real, Philip IV, date not visible (1625-26), assayer H below denomination I to right, mintmark RN to left, very rare, NGC XF details / environmental damage. Restrepo-M18.1; S-C2a; KM-A5; Cal-671. 3.13 grams. Very bold full shield with equally bold RN to left and I-H to right, king's ordinal IIII in legend, the choice cross-castles-lions also full and bold but with date off the flan, nicely contrasting toning over faintly porous surfaces and encrustation in crevices, old scratches in crown. Coins of this very brief assayer H (Juan de la Hera) are represented by just seven 1 reales (all but one a die match with the present example), a single 2 reales, and three 8 reales (see lot 929), some with visible dates 1625 and 1626, and most with the escutcheon of Portugal in the upper half of the shield, as we see here, like the initial emissions of 1621-22.
