COLOMBIA, Bogotá, gold cob 4 escudos, Ferdinand VI, assayer S to right above tilted denomination 4, mintmark F•S to left, Calicó Plate. Restrepo-M96.6; S-B27a; KM-27; Cal-726; Fr-12. 13.41 grams. Choice full cross-and-tressure, nearly full crown and shield with bold full mintmark to left and S-4 to right with the 4 (typically tilted) punched over a previous S (a die-match with examples dated 1752), XF with some marks and crudeness around edge, toned around details. Pedigreed to the Kreisberg-Schulman auction of January 1957 (lot 1730); the Schulman auction of January 1959 (lot 149); the Stack's auction of December 1986 (lot 1302); the Ponterio auction of May 1987 (lot 744); and Plate Coin on page 267 of the 6th edition of Calicó-Trigo's Numismática española (1985).
