COLOMBIA, Bogotá, gold cob 2 escudos, (1701) (VA), Philip V/Charles II transitional, flipover double-strike, rare. Restrepo-unl; S-B24; KM-14.2; Cal-1933 (under Ph. V); Fr-4a. 6.70 grams. Bold UNC but with distinctive details somewhat hard to decipher because the flipover double-strike makes the design elements of the obverse legend visible on both sides, particularly (PHILIP)VS V D G, which was punched over some form of Charles II (either CAROLVS or CARLOS) in 1701 only (date not visible on this example) with VA for assayer (also not visible here) placed after D G, some light sediment on fields, a crazy but fascinating coin for the specialist.
