Choice, non-salvage example in rich old toning (accompanied by PCGS label 85760944 XF45) with full but off-center pillars-and-waves showing bold assayer to left and clear date to right, the top of right pillar weak and the legend doubled, with full and well-centered but doubled shield showing denomination VIII (reading vertically) to left, unevenly thick at edge. Pedigreed to the Eldorado Collection (Stack's Bowers auction of January 2018, lot 11039) and Plate Coin 7 on plate XXXI (also a line drawing on page 525) of "A Hoard of the First Silver Coins of Nuevo Reino de Granada (Colombia)," by Robert Nesmith (1958), relating to a hoard discovered by Clyde Hubbard in Medellín, and pedigreed to the Rob Woodside Collection.
