COLOMBIA, Bogotá, cob 4 reales, 1700 date to right, assayer A.V (Arce) to left, unique, NGC VF 30, finest and only example in NGC census, ex-Lozano. Restrepo-M60.18; S-B11; KM-unl (11 for type); Cal-unl (Type 95). 13.50 grams. The only known example, with a very bold 1700 date to right and A•V assayer to left of complete pillars above waves, the shield also bold and almost full with clear denomination IIII to left, most of crown above, all noticeably circulated but with deeply contrasting toning in crevices, no evidence of king's name but circumstantially known to have been struck under Charles II (possibly posthumously), a new discovery coin (this date not listed in Restrepo) from a period of silver issues that are so rare that any new dated example found is unique and critically important to Colombian specialists. Pedigreed to the Alberto Lozano Collection.
