Obverse with bust of king inside legend FERNANDO VII REY DE LAS ESPANAS. with rosette stops; reverse with long inscription SANTIAGO / RECONQUISTADA EN 5. DE / OCTUBRE DE 1814. POR LOS / CUERPOS DE CHILLAN , VALDIVIA, / VOLUNTARIOS Y AUXILIARES DE / CHILOE, VOLUNTARIOS DE CASTRO, / CONCEPCION, TALAVERA, REAL DE / LIMA, ESQUADRONES DE CARAVINE- / ROS DE ABASCAL, Y, USARES DE LA / CONCORDIA, DRAGONES DE LA / FRONTERA, Y ARTILLERIA / DE CHILOE, VALDIVIA, / CHILE, LIMA, / Y EUROPA, engraver's signature ARBL•F• in exergue; smooth edge. Very rare off-metal strike of a scarcely encountered silver Chilean medal struck to commemorate the recapture of Santiago by royalist forces in 1814. AU with surface hairlines and small contact marks, a few dark toning spots on the reverse, strong luster within obverse legend (that side slightly off center).
