CHILE, Santiago, gold bust 8 escudos, Charles III, 1766 J, final digit in date 6/6 (unique variety), NGC XF details / cleaned (Colección Val y Mexía Label). Cal-2134; KM-25; Fr-11. Scarce early "rat nose" type with good luster but no toning due to cleaning, the bust slightly weak and grainy but the rest of the coin well struck, with very clear 6 punched over offset 6 for last digit of date, a unique and unrecorded variety that makes sense considering that most examples of this date show misaligned 6's (hence this new die was a sort of correction and establishes a die sequence), also with die-clashing evident in reverse legend. Pedigreed to the Val y Mexía Collection.
