CHILE, Santiago, bust 8 reales, Charles III, 1782 DA, very rare, NGC VF details / obv graffiti (Colección Val y Mexía Label), "top pop," ex-Faistauer, Johnson, Amat, and Santa Fe. Cal-1216; KM-31. Broad flan with nearly full rims despite being slightly off-center, deeply rainbow toned over muted luster, a few old marks in front of neck (not really graffiti), from a very low mintage of just 60,000 (most melted), this being one of three entries at the same grade at NGC (none higher), impressively pedigreed. Pedigreed to the Faistauer Collection (Jess Peters auction of April 1976, lot 412), stated on label as "Ex. Faista," and to the Ray Johnson Collection (Freeman Craig auction of November 1981, lot 100), the Viceroy Amat Collection (Ponterio auction of March 1991, lot 75), and the Santa Fe Collection (Stack's Bowers auction of January 2020, lot 20217), also to the Val y Mexía Collection.
