CHILE, Santiago, bust 8 reales, Charles III, 1779/6 DA, very rare, NGC VF 35 (Colección Val y Mexía Label), finest and only example in NGC census. Cal-unl (cf 1212); KM-unl (31 for type). Interesting unlisted overdate that is clearly 9/6 on this coin but may be the same as the 9/8 (misinterpreted) that is listed in references, in any case among only 99,000 minted for this year (most melted), and quite a lovely example with deep rainbow toning over muted luster and relatively smooth surfaces, arguably XF but in any case the finest overdate issue certified for this date. Pedigreed to the Val y Mexía Collection.
