CHILE, Santiago, 8 reales-sized proclamation medal, Charles III, 1760, by A. Tapia, rare, PCGS MS61, finest known in PCGS census, ex-Prieto, ex-Val y Mexía, MHE Plate. Herrera-54; Medina-62; Betts-452; MHE-295 (this medal). 38 mm. Obverse with young bust of king within tulip border inside typical coin legend; reverse with crowned arms of Santiago (lion in shield between Pillars of Hercules), burning heart between AM-AT at bottom, legend AUGUSTIS . IMPERAT . IUSIURAND.S.P . Q . CHL. An exceptional example with lovely old toning over lustrous surfaces with minimal handling marks, surely the finest known. Pedigreed to the Tomás Prieto Collection (stated on label) and the Val y Mexía Collection, also plated in Medallas de la História de España (2018), by Juan Claudio de Ramo?n, Isabel Rodri?guez Casanova, and Alberto J. Canto? Garci?a.
