CANADA, Upper Canada, copper 2 pence token, dated 1822 (struck post-1834), Lesslie & Sons / Toronto & Dundass, rare, ex-Baker. Breton-717; MacLachlan-31; UC-3. 29.26 grams. Bold XF+ with glossy brown surfaces, minor incidental marks, impressive quality for this large issue reportedly struck by Boulton & Watt in England. Lesslie & Sons were druggists and booksellers operating out of Toronto, which was the name locals used since founding but it did not officially receive that city name until 1834, the 1822 date on this piece being the date of company establishment in Kingston. Pedigreed to the Warren Baker Collection of Canadian coins and tokens.
