British naval flintlock blunderbuss, ca. 1755, marked with maker Whately. 2420 grams, 35" long. Octagon-to-round barrel, typically flared at end (to 1-1/2" bore), uncleaned and original, stamped with old museum inventory number 3291 on top, lightly pitted steel lockplate (with brass pan) engraved with maker's name WHATELY, unadorned brass furniture, replacement wooden ramrod, the lock moving but not functional and the wooden stock cracked (but stable) under the muzzle, nice piece overall.
