British double-barreled flintlock carriage pistol, Tatham & Egg, ca. 1801-15. 2.65 lbs. 14" overall, 8" barrel. High-quality original example of a rare type of flintlock holster or carriage pistol by one of the best makers in the first decade of the 19th century, with "Tatham & Egg" engraved on lock plates and deeply sunken gold makers' hallmarks at breech of each barrel. Tower of London private proof marks are visible on top of the stock in an oval cartouche. The barrels retain much of their original brown-striped finish, now mixing with brown patina, the locks with very crisp action and the steel mountings in superior condition, with a nice even gray patina and only negligible pitting, the trigger guard retaining most of its original dark-blue finish, and the stock with checkering on grips showing minimal handling marks, almost like new condition.
