Brazil (mint uncertain), 960 reis, 1817, struck over a Spanish colonial bust 8R of 1797, with unidentified (Dutch? 32 stuivers?) countermark on obverse (probably rare). 26.6 grams. Richly toned AXF with several elements of original design peeking through, like the 1797 date at bottom of cross, but the most curious aspect is the bold, round countermark in the center of the obverse featuring crossed swords above a crude 32 preceded by a dot, origin unknown.
