Brass shako plate, British, universal pattern, ex-Lady Burgess (1806), ex-Sotheby's, ex-Cowan. 35 grams. 6" x 4-1/8". British Napoleonic War general service pattern "stovepipe" hat shako plate in brass, with numerous repairs on the underside, still retaining attractive motifs and coloring, with Latin phrase in center meaning "shame on him who thinks evil of it.". From the Lady Burgess (1806), pedigreed to the Rex Cowan Collection and the Sotheby's auction of December 19, 2000 (lot 461b), with copy of invoice.
