Bogota, Colombia, gold cob 2 escudos, 1701/0, assayer VA (Arce), Philip V, reverse legend reading backwards, NGC UNC details / cleaned (1715 Fleet Label). Restrepo-unl (M66 for type); S-B24; KM-unl (14.2 for type); Cal-1917 (under Ph. V). 6.64 grams. Fascinating coin, lightly toned on fields, with mostly bold full shield and cross and much legend including bold full date that is listed as clean 1701 on the NGC label (our own die-study work to be published in the near future proves that it was made from a 1700 die), as well as more obverse legend than has been seen on any other example, including a bold (PHILIPP)VS V. D. G. V.A lightly punched over (CAROL)OS [stet] DG V.A, but perhaps the most interesting aspect is that the reverse-side legend reads [XE]R . M[VRAINAPSIH] with the 7 of the date punched over an upside-down 7! From the 1715 Fleet, with photo-certificate. Please use this link to verify the certification number
