Bogota, Colombia, bust 1/2 real, Ferdinand VII (bust of Charles IV), 1812 J.F, mintmark MR instead of NR, NGC F 15, ex-Ortiz Murias. Restrepo-106.6; Cal-449; KM-69.1. Very deeply toned over strong details (including almost full rims), small spot of blue plastic above left pillar, very scarce date (eleven examples traced), an interesting aspect of which is that the engraver put an M instead of an N for the mintmark, perhaps intending to indicate MR for Medio Real, also with recut 2 in date that is not mentioned in Restrepo, second finest at NGC behind a single VF 35. Pedigreed to the Gregorio Toulemonde Collection (stated on label) and to the Jorge Ortiz Murias Collection (Sedwick Auction 11, lot 1041).
