Blakely solid iron shot, 3.5", with lead sabot. 15 lb; 8" x 3-1/2". A massive bullet for huge gun (howitzer?), with its original lead casing present at the flat end, all a bit rusty (the iron) and encrusted (the lead) but fully intact and heavy. The wreck that yielded it was lost March 19, 1863, while attempting to run the blockade into Charleston, SC, during the US Civil War. From the collection of Dr. E.
