BRAZIL, 300 reis, Afonso VI, crowned-300 countermark (1663) on a Spanish cob 4 reales of Philip IV, assayer not visible, very rare. Gomes-46.01; LMB-11; KM-unl (18 for type). 6.82 grams. Very rare type from this wreck but also a rare peninsular host for the bold 300-reis countermark on the cross side, partial shield visible, light surface corrosion. Pedigreed to the Steve Valentine Collection, with original certificate from the salvor/conservator. Recovered from: Joanna, sunk in 1682 off South Africa
