BOLIVIA, oval gold military decoration, dated 1824 (struck 1825), Restoration of Peru in Ayacucho by Bolívar, by Atanasio Davalos, rare. Urdaneta Braschi-I.A.3; Fonrobert-9179 var. 14.30 grams. 28 x 32 mm. Obverse with bust of Bolívar inside legend A SU LIBERTADOR / SIMON BOLIVAR above engraver's initials D.A.; reverse with Peruvian arms inside legend EL PERU RESTAURADO EN AYACUCHO AÑO DE 1824 •; low-karat gold (about 64% fine, the rest silver and copper), in well-used condition (heavily polished VF, with top loop removed), this issue created by decree under José María Galdiano on February 12, 1825, for the Congress of El Peru and given to military officers, desirable to Bolívar collectors as the first post-Independence medal struck to honor the Liberator.
