BOLIVIA, confederation with Peru, silver medal, 1835-dated, Victory at Yanacocha, NGC MS 61, finest and only example in NGC census. Fonrobert-9263. 23.58 grams. Issued in commemoration of Bolivian intervention in Peru's civil war and the victory of Andrés de Santa Cruz's forces at the Battle of Yanacocha on August 13, 1835, resulting in the Peru-Bolivian Confederation. Obverse with REPUBLICA BOLIVIANA above and six stars below the early arms of Bolivia inside a radiant sunburst; reverse with central circular inscription AUXILIANDO AL PERU around EN 13 D / AGOSTO D / 1835. Listed by Fonrobert as from Peru and attributed likewise by NGC. Sharply struck central devices with the full radiate design visible, broad original surfaces exhibiting light gray to champagne toning and considerable underlying mint brilliance, with scattered fine adjustment or preparation lines typical of the issue. An unusually well-preserved example of this scarce historical medal and particularly desirable at the Mint State level.
