BOLIVIA, Potosí, gold bust 4 escudos, Charles IV, 1791 PR, laureate bust, very rare, NGC AU 53, ex-Almenara, ex-Caballero, Calicó Plate. Janson-73.3.1; Cal-1521; Fr-11; KM-76. Rich gold color with good luster, strong strike, just some honest high-point wear, second finest in NGC census behind a single AU 58 (see Sedwick Auction 20, lot 89), a classic one-year rarity from an exceedingly low mintage of just 170 coins that includes the non-laureate type as well. Pedigreed to the Almenara Collection and to the Caballero de las Yndias Collection (Aureo & Calicó auction of April 2009, lot 16), plate coin on page 412 of Calicó's Numismática española (2019) (both stated on label).
