BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, Philip IV, assayer TR (large, early 1640s), ex-Sotheby's. S-P27; KM-19a; Cal-Type 327. 22.36 grams. Partial shield and cross with weak areas more due to strike weakness than corrosion, clear assayer plus the first two digits of date visible, rare provenance. Pedigreed to the Sotheby's (London) auction of December 2000 (lot 584), with Sedwick certificate from 2003. Recovered from: "San Francisco Wreck," sunk ca. 1647 off the Cape Verde Islands, west of Africa
