BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, Philip II, assayer B (5th period, early style), border of x's on reverse only, no Grade on certificate, ex-Atocha Research Collection. S-P14; KM-5.5; Cal-unl (cf 672). 26.19 grams. Very choice full shield and cross, the latter slightly doubled but with bold fleury-cross ornament at top and clear border of x's, rather scarce as mated with a normal dot-border obverse (this combination missing in Sellschopp), no corrosion, attractively toned, highly desirable as among the 237 coins selected for the stand-alone Research Collection in 1988, all of which can be considered Grade 1 but never actually received a Grade. Pedigreed to the Atocha Research Collection (coin number 173), with original Fisher tag and special photo-certificate 237524 plus 2008 appraisal for $3,500 hand-signed by Dr. R. Duncan Mathewson III, also pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 11, with original lot-tag 239. Recovered from: Atocha, sunk in 1622 west of Key West, Florida
