BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, 1652 E, Transitional Type VII/A, ex-Ponte, Mastalir Plate. S-P37; KM-A20.7; Cal-1496. 26.27 grams. Very solid and virtually corrosion-free with choice full crown above full pillars-and-waves showing prominent date and both assayers, nearly fully detailed shield side except for minor doubling that canceled out the second date to right, toned all over. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection, plated on page 163 of Mastalir's The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint 1649-1653: The 1652 Transitional 8 Reales (2015), also pedigreed to the Ponterio auction of January 2003 (lot 1452).
