BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, (1651) E/O, with crowned-O countermark on cross, ex-Maravillas, ex-Ponte, Mastalir Plate. S-P36; KM-19b; Cal-1490. 20.93 grams. Thin from corrosion but with nice VF+ details, including full shield with both E/O's clear, good full cross-lions-castles with deep and nearly full countermark (scarce) in bottom-left quadrant, that side off-center enough to show metal well past the outer border at bottom. Ponte Collection, Plate Coin on page 197 of Mastalir's The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint 1649-1652: The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652, Part A: The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage (2021).
