BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, (1651-52) E, with crowned-T countermark on cross, rare, ex-Mastalir (Plate). S-P36; KM-19b; Cal-Type 327. 26.33 grams. Choice solid flan with no corrosion and lovely toning, full crown in countermark in top-left quadrant of full cross-lions-castles, nice full shield (just the top-right corner doubled) with full P-E to left, minor edge-split next to countermark. Pedigreed to the Roberto Mastalir Collection, Plate Coin on page 218 of his book The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint, 1649-1652: The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652, Part B: The Countermarks of 1652, also pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 6, with original lot-tag 377 and Sedwick photo-certificate from 2021.
