BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, (1649) Z, with two countermarks (crowned-C and crown-alone) on cross (very rare), ex-Ponte, Mastalir Plate. S-P34; KM-19a; Cal-1485. 12.77 grams. Thin from corrosion and badly cracked but with both countermarks clear and nearly complete on full cross, decent full shield with bold Z in doubled area to left, unevenly toned. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection, Plate Coin in Mastalir's 2021 books The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint 1649-1652: The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652, on page 32 of Part A (shields) and on page 70 of Part B (countermarks). Recovered from: Capitana, sunk in 1654 off Chanduy, Ecuador
