BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 8 reales, 1649 Z, with crown-alone countermark on shield, ex-Mastalir (Plate). S-P34; KM-19a; Cal-1485. 20.57 grams. Broad flan with very bold •P•Z• to left of choice shield harboring full countermark in center, full date outside of complete but weaker cross, minimal corrosion, nicely toned. Pedigreed to the Roberto Mastalir Collection, with his tag, Plate Coin number 5 on page 171 of Part A and on pages 254 and 275 of Part B of his books The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint 1649-1652: The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652 (2021), with generic tag and certificate (copy) from the salvors. Recovered from: Capitana, sunk in 1654 off Chanduy, Ecuador
