BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, Philip IV, assayer not visible (1640s). KM-17a; Cal-Type 279. 11.80 grams. Solid piece struck on a crude planchet, bold partial shield and cross with "flat" lions that were revived in the early 1640s (also denomination o-iiii) but with distinctive "checkerboard" castles, very minimal surface corrosion. With original certificate from Captain Tracy Bowden through his contract with the Dominican Republic. Recovered from: Concepción, sunk in 1641 off Hispaniola
