BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, Philip II, assayer C, without erasure of previous assayer, extremely rare, ex-Ponte. S-P5; KM-4.2; Cal-524 var. 13.41 grams. Even rarer than the C-under-erasure that Sellschopp (who lacked one in 4R) considered to be La Plata in error is this example of C WITHOUT erasure, likely indicative of a fresh new die (short lived), this piece with choice full shield and cross on a broad flan with much legend and full crown, bold assayer C, AXF with uneven toning in crevices. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection.
