BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, 1652 E, transitional McLean Type I (variety with E-E-E across bottom), ex-Mastalir (Plate). S-P37; KM-A18 var; Cal-1109 var. 10.70 grams. Round but thin from corrosion (more on pillars than on shield), the latter with clear A-P-retrograde 4 to left and O-E-(52) to right, full pillars with messy but certain E in center (possibly over-punched with 4) per Mastalir I.1, which appears to be at least scarce, patchy toning all over. Pedigreed to the Roberto Mastalir Collection, with his tag, plated on page 40 of his 2016 book The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint 1649-1652, The 1652 Transitional Minor Denominations 4, 2, 1 and 1/2 Reales. Recovered from: Capitana, sunk in 1654 off Chanduy, Ecuador
