BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, (1650) O, with crowned-T countermark on cross (unique), ex-Ponte, Mastalir Plate. S-P35; KM-17b; Cal-1106. 13.36 grams. Bold full cross with faint 165(0) date and nearly full countermark at bottom (apparently the only example known of this exact countermark on a 4 reales, according to Mastalir), nearly full shield with bold assayer to right, deeply toned VF that could be salvage but not indicated as such in Mastalir. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection and plated on page 222 of Mastalir's book The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint, 1649-1652: The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652, Part B: The Countermarks of 1652 (2020).
