BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, (1650) O, with crowned-L countermark on shield, ex-Ponte, Mastalir Plate. S-P35; KM-17b; Cal-1106. 13.72 grams. Choice countermark (nearly full) inside off-center shield with bold full 4-O to right, weaker cross (also off-center) but nicely toned, light corrosion. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection and plated on page 165 of Mastalir's book The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint, 1649-1652: The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652, Part B: The Countermarks of 1652 (2020), also pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 15 (lot 491). Recovered from: Capitana, sunk in 1654 off Chanduy, Ecuador
