BOLIVIA, Potosí, cob 4 reales, (1650) O, with crown-alone countermark on shield, ex-Ponte, Mastalir Plate. S-P35; KM-17b; Cal-1106. 7.55 grams. Odd-shaped flan (thin from corrosion but with prominent point in edge) with bold full countermark inside off-center shield, full and well-centered cross, patchy dark toning, edge-split. Pedigreed to the Luis R. Ponte Collection and plated on page 283 of Mastalir's book The Great Transition at the Potosí Mint, 1649-1652: The 1649-1652 Crowned Shield Coinage and the Countermarks of 1652, Part B: The Countermarks of 1652 (2020). Recovered from: Capitana, sunk in 1654 off Chanduy, Ecuador
